Mission Statement
To create a recording label, distribution network, and music publishing company that is dedicated to finding, producing and promoting young creators of music, internationally.
To create a musical and business environment that is supportive to these young creators
and aid them to:
- Create new and innovative music in all categories.
- Have their music presented and heard by the public at large.
- Promote and distribute that music internationally.
- To assist these creators to able to make a good livelihood from their creations
Often, young innovative creators are a step too far in advance, or completely outside of the “popular” trends of the music industry, in all forms of music; jazz, pop, and mixed projects. This can make them quite “invisible” to most major record companies
However, we believe these are just the musicians and creators who should be given a chance to bring their creations into being. They are the ones that will possibly influence future trends and styles of music. All of the “greats” in all areas of music that we now admire were always one step ahead of the game, and up until recently, could find someone in a record company who would believe in their concept and help realize it. But in our world of bottom lines, cost cutting, and downsizing, many major labels have drastically reduced or eliminated their artist and repertoire departments making them more inaccessible to music that is outside of the main stream. This ultimately affects the type and quality of music that actually reaches the music market, and ultimately the public
We propose to do something about it. Therefore we have established WP Records with three sub labels: WPR Jazz, for jazz projects,
WPR Music for bands, singer/songwriters, pop music, and film music.
WPR Outrageous for projects that don’t fit in any box.
We look forward to bringing to the market what we think are truly innovative creators. Happy listening
Gast Waltzing
A native of the Grand Duche of Luxembourg, Gast Waltzing knew from a very young age that the life of a musician was the life for him. He studied classical music intensively, but his heart was always in thrall to jazz. This combination has been very productive in the composition and production of over 150 film and TV scores, not to mention all his jazz albums, the latest 2 of which are release internationally on Warner Jazz, London.
The founding of WP Records by Waltzing in 2004, is for him a logical step in his musical progression. The desire to see innovative music thrive, and to help other creators to find their voice is part of the thrill. For More information on Gast, see his full bio on this website under the WPP section.
Maggie Parke
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah in the USA, Maggie came to the Grand Duche du Luxembourg in 1980, supposedly for a 3 month stint as a consultant to the Classical Music Festival in Echternach. But that plan changed shortly after meeting Waltzing. Since then they have been stanch partners in many successful enterprises. The latest of which is the founding of WPR.
A songwriter with a head for business, Maggie couldn’t agree more that something in the music industry needs to be changed. She noted the downtrend of major label record sales, and also the lack of original choice in music being presented to the broad public, and agreed with Waltzing that the time and place was right to found WPR and begin a new independent label.
