Born in the Grand Duche of Luxembourg in 1956, Gast Waltzing's defining passion has always been music. At the age of 7 he began his studies at the Conservatoire of Luxembourg, continued his classical training at the Conservatoire Royal de Brussels and completed his studies at the Conservatoire National Superior de Paris. "I am always a musician" he states, "It's not like I wake up and decide where to schedule music in. It is always present."

He was named Professor of Trumpet at the Conservatoire of Luxembourg in 1982, and in 1986 founded the Jazz Department of which he remains the head. Having begun composing at 15 with the Luxembourg Jazz Five, he has composed original music for his many formations, expanding into the composition and production of music for Film and Television in 1989, with the original score for "A WOP BOP A LOP BOP" for which he was nominated for Best European Film Composer. Since that time he has composed and produced over 160 original scores for Film and TV.

Many of his Film music scores were written for symphonic orchestra and which were recorded with the OPL (Orchestra Philharmonique du Luxembourg). He was asked to conduct the OPL on several very special performances, such as a coronation concert for Luxembourg's Grand Duke in 2000 with Patricia Kaas, and the opening of the Tour de France in 2002 with the Scorpions.

Waltzing signed a deal with Warner Music in London with his jazz group "Largo" in 2003, where they released their debut album "Fables of Lost Time".

In 2004 Waltzing founded WPR (Waltzing Parke Records) the mother company of the "WPR Jazz" label. Additionally Waltzing Parke Audio (WPA) was founded, which comprises a recording studio and audio post-production facilities.

In 2005 Waltzing composed and conducted the first concert of the newly founded "Orchestra National de Jazz Luxembourg" ONJL for short, with guest star George Duke, for the opening of the newly built Salle Grand Duchess Charlotte, known locally as "The Phil" or "The Philharminie". He was commissioned to write the fireworks music for Luxembourg's National Day celebrations and conducted the OPL featuring renowned French jazz violinist Didier Lockwood at the open air concert celebrating the occasion.

In the summer of 2005 the second "Largo" album titled "Long Journey" was released on Warner Jazz.

2006 was spent performing with Largo, producing jazz projects for WPR Records, and composing film music in the form of "Wachgekuesst" a TV movie project for ARD Bavaria, directed by Helmut Metzger. Waltzing was also established as the conductor for the "Pops at the Phil" concert with the OPL, with Moran as the featured soloist for this year.

Largo was invited to perform at the 2007 MIDEM, and in this same year toured in Vietnam, Austria and Romania, where they performed in the Sibu Jazz Festival. In the now established "Pops at the Phil", Dionne Warwick performed as the soloist with the OPL in a concert organized and conducted by Gast. He also produced music for a short film and several documentaries in this year.

2008 was a year of film music composition for Waltzing, composing conducting and producing scores for "JCVD" (starring Jean Claude Van Damn directed by Mabrouk El Mechri, "Les Dents de La Nuit", Directed by Stéphane Cafiers and Vincent Lobelle. This year's "Pops at the Phil" concert he conducted with the OPL featured the New York Voices. Also in 2008 Gast produced jazz albums, for David Laborier, Jeff Herr and Damien Prud'Homme for WPR Records.

Projects for 2009 include the release of the third LARGO album recorded in Feb. at WPA Studios, composing film music for three films, touring with Largo, the "Pops at the Phil" concert featuring James Morrison on trumpet in May, producing 2 new projects for WPRjazz, and the preparations of the Luxembourg music presentation at the Shanghai World Expo in 2010.
